Sail size 7.8 fits the 76 centimetre wide board perfectly - two Jag were the comparison boards for the sail test in surf 9-2024.

The Duotone Jag offers plenty of potential for hobby racers, but remains easy to control. We tested whether the 128 also had these characteristics planed into the hull.

As with the Duotone Jag in 110 litres (here in the freerace boards test), the concept with the slightly longer length also works perfectly for the 76 centimetre wide light wind projectile. The 2.35 metre length offers enough shape clearance for a harmonious, flat planing curve. To ensure that the board can still fly freely, the two-stage, deep cut-outs are standard on this racy sports package. The straps are easy to adjust and comfortable, the pads are grippy. The non-skid paint appeared quite rough, perhaps due to the warm water and the correspondingly soft skin. The straps are fastened in all positions with two screws on each side. On the water, the relatively parallel outline in the centre area ensures excellent tipping stability. The almost maximum width extends over a long area, and the wide bow offers plenty of space for tacking without diving. The deck is only discreetly hollowed out from the mast track area to the bow and thus retains a good residual volume.

Sporty and comfortable at the same time

With its visually very balanced shape, the board planes with low resistance. It hardly pushes any foam rollers in front of it when bobbing, but glides on the water even with little sail pull and accelerates excellently. You can actively edge and lift it without it flying around your ears. The fin doesn't lift the board all by itself, but don't worry, it has it all: minimal drag and lots of fun right up to top speed. It doesn't fly like a slalom board, but it's damn sporty and can really accelerate. 50 km/h and no end in sight - you can achieve this even in upper medium winds.

The numerous plugs offer the right set-up for every requirement. Sporty and comfortable at the same time - yes, that's possible. Even the rear outer loop is easy to reach. The Jag is also a pleasure to ride acoustically - it only touches down quietly and muffled, but is predominantly free-flying. When jibing, the board is versatile: tight turns with plenty of grip or wide turns with good planing - the choice is yours! From simple power jibes to race jibes, everything is possible. It glides smoothly and stably through wide radii and can be turned really tightly without skipping.

Surf summary of the Duotone Jag 128

The Jag offers a balanced mix of light wind to top speed capabilities and very good manoeuvrability. The rather small fin is not the best for upwind courses, but is really fast on half-wind and downwind courses. Duotone recommends two fins - in addition to the tested 41 "E/Lab", a 42 Duotone Race for more comfort.
