The long and narrow raceboards still have a large fan base, with regattas attracting numbers of participants that other classes can only dream of. Exocet is now delighting the raceboard scene with two new boards. The Exocet RS5 comes in the robust AST design and is only around 66 centimetres wide with a length of 3.80 metres. The wide bow and narrow pintail tail are striking. The former is designed to prevent tip-in on the cross, while the latter, together with the forward offset fin, ensures good downwind performance. "Perfectly tuned for medium to ultra-light winds, this model offers easy handling and a budget-friendly solution that doesn't skimp on performance," promises the manufacturer. It is aimed primarily at young people and "surfers of all skill levels who want to gain a competitive edge." The RS V5 will cost 2995 euros.
More than twice as expensive is the Exocet RS V6, another new race board from the French. For 4195 euros, you get 379 cm by 68 cm of the finest carbon with the "most advanced and tactical design for every race course" according to the manufacturer. The shape is based on the Exocet Proteus (Jono Dunnett is travelling around Japan with a board like this) and was developed by former world champion Patrice Belbeoc'h and raceboard champion Curro Manchon. "The hull has been better balanced by reducing the height and increasing the volume at the tail and bow, while maintaining the overall volume and distribution," says the manufacturer.
The new boards will also be available as a set with components from Loftsails and Unifiber.
