The Duotone Jag 128 presents itself as a very clean freerace board with well thought-out details. The tuttle box is also suitable for foils, which extends the range of applications. The pads have a large surface area and the straps sit comfortably on the foot. The colour-contrasting cut-outs in the tail are a striking feature. The underwater hull is rather discreet with a minimal, flat V in the rear planing area. In the front area under the mast track, there is also only a very slight double concave profile with a very slight V. The planing surface extends over 74 centimetres and runs straight to the tail without any upturn. The foot straps can be mounted very far back and out for a sporty riding style. In this position, the board hangs on the foot like a race slalom board and allows you to apply good pressure against the rail. In addition, there are more than enough strap positions for this class of board - right up to the very comfortable and "beginner"-friendly freeride position.
On the water, the Duotone Jag 128 shows its strengths right from the start: the board is stable when planing and then accelerates light-footedly and very quickly. Despite the choppy conditions on Lake Neusiedl, getting into the rearmost loop position was surprisingly easy. The board glides very freely even in the lower wind range and quickly develops its very high speed. It is stable around the longitudinal axis, but can be easily edged with toe pressure and practically never touches down on choppy waves.
The 42 Duotone race fin delivers optimum performance in the lower and medium wind range. In peak gusts and in the upper wind range with the 7.8 mm sail, a 40 or 38 mm fin would possibly be even more controlled to ride, because otherwise the Jag really glides very freely. A particularly positive aspect is that the board does not slow down even when travelling over waves in a room wind, but retains its free planing position without braking.
In gybes, the Duotone Jag 128 impresses with smooth turning and very good speed throughout the entire turn. The rail cuts cleanly through choppy waves, making a wide range of jibe radii possible without any problems. The Jag jibes smoother, more versatile and sportier than many freeride boards.
Overall, the Duotone Jag 128 conveys a very sporty, fast riding experience without making excessive demands on riding skills. Its strengths are particularly evident in the lower to medium planing wind range, but it is also a very good choice for top speed runs with a smaller fin for the best results.
