With a stable, slightly flatter planing position, the board then accelerates well, although not quite with the free-flying - and more demanding - freerace feeling of a Tabou Rocket+. In high (choppy) waves, the board noticeably starts to edge, but always with damping and without losing its good controllability. When the water becomes smoother, the Bolt also floats sportily and freely over the chop. On the other hand, the board does not require any particular effort or body tension from moderate half planing to top speed and would easily pass the test as a sporty freeride board.
The jibing qualities are also really suitable for freeriding: The Bolt requires a bit more courageous foot pressure to initiate, then positions itself particularly stable on the rail and maintains the selected radius with very good gliding speed and without any necessary corrections, even when choppy waves have to be crossed. The radii are not as tight as they could be, but even wider, carved jibes are a pleasure. When foiling, the Bolt requires frequent altitude corrections - also due to its length - and tends to land prematurely in wind holes and gybes.
The Bolt is a very good-necked board, positioned between freeride and freerace - also for surfers who generally prefer slightly longer shapes. The price for a carbon construction throughout the deck is favourable.
glide, controllability, power jibes
Very long for foiling
