3 top boards for beginners
With the first warm days, many beginners and returners are also looking for a suitable board. In the following, we'll tell you what you should look out for to ensure that easy take-offs, effortless gliding and sporty freeriding are possible without any problems.

Many modern windsurf boards are characterised by very compact dimensions, i.e. a comparatively short length. This is particularly advantageous if you can already glide and ride at speed. Intermediates and newcomers to windsurfing, on the other hand, benefit from boards that are slightly longer, i.e. have a greater overall length. The advantage: "length works"! Long boards run faster and more directionally stable in chop, the transition to planing then takes place without a noticeable threshold and also without the rider having to do anything. Shorter boards, on the other hand, often require an active riding style with courageous pumping strokes when planing.

If the right strap positions are added to the stretched shape, nothing stands in the way of relaxed freeriding. Before we introduce you to three suitable models, here are a few tips on the right board size:

  • Type climber: If you want to surf mainly in light winds and are not yet able to waterstart safely, you should ideally choose a size according to the formula Body weight + 60 to 70 litres = recommended board volume
  • Freerider type: If you want to surf mainly in planing winds and are already reasonably confident with water starts and planing in the loops, you should ideally choose a size according to the formula Body weight + 30 to 50 litres = recommended board volume

In the following, we present three board models for beginners and intermediates that combine the advantages just mentioned.

Tabou Bullit - affordable & tough

The Tabou Bullit combines a robust design with dimensions suitable for intermediates and a favourable price. The board is available in sizes 125/135/145/155 and 185 litres, the 185 is also equipped with a centreboard box. With a length of just under 260 centimetres, the sizes from 125 to 145 are already optimised for early planing. The scope of delivery includes straps and the matching Powerbox fin.

JP Fun Ride - Length is running!

Those returning to windsurfing in particular often find it difficult to cope with today's concepts, some of which are very short. JP-Australia has created the Fun Ride especially for this target group and all those who value early and harmonious planing. With a length of 265 centimetres, the concept is very stretched, 155 litres of volume ensure a secure stance. In order to optimise the board for light winds, JP has given the board a centre fin that prevents it from drifting sideways. In planing conditions, the centre fin is simply removed and the fin box closed. Thanks to a large deck pad, children can also learn on the board without the risk of injury - just fit a small fin in the tail!

Tabou Rocket Ltd - the light rocket

Are you looking for a board that starts planing early on, but then turns on the turbo? Is a light, sporty feel important to you because you can already glide and loop safely and also want to really step on the gas? Then the Tabou Rocket Ltd might be the right board for you! The Rocket is an absolute classic and has always been characterised by a slightly more stretched shape that is optimised for gliding performance, allowing you to slide effortlessly over the glide threshold and run around the turn in power jibes as if on rails.

The board is available in sizes of 105/115/125/135 and 145 litres - also in an even lighter team design on request.
