The Fanatic Blast is aimed more at advanced freeriders

The Fanatic Blast looks very sporty and almost like a freerace board. We checked its performance and also whether the board is still suitable for windsurfing beginners. We show you all the features and details here in the test

Freeride experts, watch out! The Blast is the sporty delicacy of the group. The strap positions are designed for advanced to very performance-orientated freeriding, you will look in vain for intermediate positions. The board is comparatively wobbly in the water when bobbing, but it still planes excellently, accelerates to the maximum and consistently achieves the best speed. The short length requires a smooth change of side when turning, the Blast is also the most sensitive board in the group when catching up with the sail and when planing the shape also requires more precise loading in the longitudinal direction (a little further back), but then accelerates and can be easily edged even in moderate winds with pressure on the narrow fin. Then the board flies low and controlled, but almost without touching the waves, even more calmly than the Eagle, and thus enables controlled, optimum top speed.

On the cambered ("domed") deck, you stand comfortably in both rows of straps and feel stable and safe overall, even when flying low at maximum cruising speed. At the same time, the board is very easy to jibe from full speed and offers all the options that are possible with this board size: from wide carves to classic, rounded power jibes with medium radii.

Surf summary of the Fanatic Blast 147

Very powerful board for advanced freeriders or freeracers, which sets no limits even in sporty jibes.

Deputy Editor in Chief surf

Stephan Gölnitz comes from Bochum and had Holland as his home windsurfing territory for many years before moving to Munich in 1996 for the job of test editor at surf magazine. The materials engineering graduate worked as a surf instructor on the Ijsselmeer during his studies and competed for several seasons for the Essen sailing team in the Surfbundesliga and the Funboard Cup. He completed a traineeship at surf-Magazin in the test department and since then has actively accompanied almost all tests on the boom and for more than 10 years also as a photographer. Stephan has covered many thousands of test kilometers, mainly on Lake Garda and in Langebaan, but also in Egypt and Tobago. He gets his hands on over 100 new sails and boards every year as his company car. Privately, he prefers to surf with a foil on Lake Walchensee or “unfortunately far too rarely” in the waves. SUP is Stephan's second passion, which he pursued for several years at numerous SUP races. Today, he prefers to paddle on river tours with family or friends - even for several days.
