The Starboard Go is aimed at intermediates with its large EVA deck, but is also very sporty in stronger winds. We show you all the test impressions, features and details here.

Long, wide and inflated with plenty of volume - this makes the Go a stable platform for heavy climbers and can largely compensate for the rather high weight in planing winds. The very comfortable deck pad (finely structured but not slippery) offers plenty of space for planing or tacking. At the straps, under the heels, the footpads are thickly padded and run all the way round the edge. Both intermediates and freeriders will find the right strap position - and then the modern-looking shape with its slightly concave, thinned-out nose allows you to glide smoothly and easily.

The underwater hull is obviously more sporty than you might expect, because with a strong pull in the sail, the Go flies freely and high over the water like a racing sail from the racing segment, much more demanding than its freeride companion Carve: experience is therefore required at top speed. But until you get there, the Go accompanies you with good planing potential even in light planing winds and also in wide power jibes. Narrow gliding jibes, on the other hand, are only possible with disproportionately strong foot pressure and weight input. The Go offers the option of fitting a large centre fin (accessory), which enables very good upwind performance even without gliding wind.

Surf summary of the Starboard Go

A versatile board that is suitable for children and intermediates and offers a very fast freeride feeling for experienced family members.

Stephan Gölnitz comes from Bochum and had Holland as his home windsurfing territory for many years before moving to Munich in 1996 for the job of test editor at surf magazine. The materials engineering graduate worked as a surf instructor on the Ijsselmeer during his studies and competed for several seasons for the Essen sailing team in the Surfbundesliga and the Funboard Cup. He completed a traineeship at surf-Magazin in the test department and since then has actively accompanied almost all tests on the boom and for more than 10 years also as a photographer. Stephan has covered many thousands of test kilometers, mainly on Lake Garda and in Langebaan, but also in Egypt and Tobago. He gets his hands on over 100 new sails and boards every year as his company car. Privately, he prefers to surf with a foil on Lake Walchensee or “unfortunately far too rarely” in the waves. SUP is Stephan's second passion, which he pursued for several years at numerous SUP races. Today, he prefers to paddle on river tours with family or friends - even for several days.
