The Severne Fox convinces with a lot of control and speed, but is not always suitable for intermediates

Even on land, the Severne Fox stands out with its thin bow and "humpbacked" tail. It also stands out on the water with its high performance, but is more demanding.

"A Maserati comes to the Pinto meeting" - what starts like a mediocre joke nevertheless describes the existence of the Severne Fox in this group very well. The board with its extravagant volume curve with a long, flat "bonnet" and a potent, super-fat tail already stands out visually. When planing, you stand stable and relaxed on the flat deck, then wind yourself into the foot straps (at least in the outside position) like in a narrow, lowered bucket seat. But you feel the same comfort and lateral support.

And you also need good grip for the sporty riding performance. This is because the Fox, spurred on by the pointed 44 mm fin, turns into the red zone at high speed early on and still offers the stable position on the road surface that you would expect from a sophisticated sports suspension. Fortunately, this has a slightly damping effect and offers surprisingly good comfort, so that you can fully enjoy the excellent speed and free planing. The board tips almost automatically onto the leeward edge and then flies over waves untouched. The feet find the best grip on the wedge-shaped pads, the positions are designed for sporty freeriding or freeracing.

The Fox wants to be actively guided in the jibes

When turning around, the Fox needs to be steered with a firm will, like a go-kart without power steering: if you steer with pressure and precision, you can guide the board through the entire gybe in a controlled manner - even cleanly through choppy waves - with plenty of speed. On the other hand, the shape punishes wobbly jibes with a relaxed sailing position with more agility than the curriculum for jibing students provides. The Fox has completed carving jibes with the best results as a centre of gravity, but tight turns require a lot of pressure and succeed with a rather moderately tight radius.

The 44 mm fin is a great fit for sails around 7.5 square metres and offers top performance in light and medium planing winds. In strong winds, it could be swapped for a size smaller; then the Fox can also be used at top speed at the limit with the Starboard Carve fully keep up.

surf verdict of the Severne Fox

The Fox has crept among the freeriders like a fox into a henhouse. If you're looking for an easy-to-control fast freerace board, you've come to the right place. Threading into the straps is not suitable for intermediates, but after that the Fox accelerates like Karl the Coyote.
