surf: Werner, the Magic Ride has been given a comprehensive update for the coming season. What have you been working on?
Werner Gnigler: Essentially, we have worked on the proportions. The target group expects a board that glides effortlessly. A certain width is helpful for this, but also a greater overall length. The new Magic Ride has therefore been stretched - slightly longer, but also slightly narrower in the centre. The bottom line is that the various sizes have been made between one and 2.5 centimetres narrower.
What is this supposed to achieve?
The changes are intended to improve passive planing and also make it easier to edge the board in the jibe.
Are there any innovations within the range or will the volume sizes remain the same?
Essentially, everything remains the same. With seven sizes, we cover all volumes from 99 to 159 litres in 10-litre increments. The line will be available in three technologies. PRO (2249 euros), Full Wood Sandwich (1999 euros) and a favourable ES technology (Epoxy Sandwich, 1499 euros).
Until now, the Magic Ride has always been available in a family version with a centreboard. Will this offer remain?
There is also a family version of the two large shapes, with a centre fin and a full-surface EVA deck for 1499 euros.
