surf recommendation: The absolute tip for learning the planing jibe and also as a comfortable freeride board for anyone who prefers control, performance and easy manoeuvrability over the last dash of liveliness. At the same time, the board is by no means boring on the straights, but free and fast on the move.

On landSuper wide, short and low volume. This inevitably leads to a round outline if you don't want to produce a tail like a wallpaper table. The harmonious outline combines the wide planing surface in the centre with a surprisingly narrow tail. Thin rails and an overall reduced thickness make the RRD quite fluffy on land. Thick pads ensure comfort. The straps can be mounted quite racy far out, the everyman freeride position and a pure step-on version with a centre strap at the rear. It will be interesting to see what effect the small fin set-up of just 38 centimetres has. The underside of the board is polished to a high gloss.

On the water: It is the smallest board (by volume) and the largest board (by width) in this group. And yet it fits perfectly into the field. The huge width is what really counts when you're dabbling, so it almost doesn't matter where you stand on the board. As long as your toes don't hang completely over the rail, you can hardly do anything wrong. The same applies to planing. Although not quite as fast as the longer super gliders, with a little more resistance in the first few metres, but super easy, the RRD glides off and as if cemented around its longitudinal axis, the board glides over boat waves, wind waves and on the way into the loops, all fears that the wide board could develop a life of its own are completely unfounded. Quite the opposite: the RRD remains particularly stable and easy to ride right into the red wind range. Even in full planing, the RRD doesn't let itself be stressed, the attribute "glides like on rails" has been milled into the foam of the RRD. If you then flip the switch and rush into the jibe, you will experience a new wonder. The RRD is perhaps the best board on the market for learning the power jibe. The radii are not so easy to vary, but the board glides through the classic power jibe as if on autopilot. Once edged, the board's in-built cornering position means that it can't be moved from its orbit even if you make a big mistake. There's plenty of time to shifter at the jibe exit, and no board in this class is more stable in the water.
