On land: At 10.8/11.2 centimetres in the middle, both RRDs are by far the thinnest boards, like two rolled-out pancakes. The outline is also particularly round with the large width, as the tail of the 120 is only slightly wider than that of a Gecko 120.
On the water: At 80 centimetres, the 120 RRD is wider than anything previously available in this volume class. Nevertheless, the board feels similar underfoot to the 120 Fanatic Gecko, i.e. like a classic 135-litre freerider. The board had already proven itself in the freeride test and shows once again here that it also performs well among the wider competitors. Designed less for maximum planing, with the relatively shortest fin, the board accelerates a little more gently, doesn't seem sluggish when planing, but runs a little flatter and more leisurely than the comparable 120-litre Gecko. But even after this test, one thing is clear: the 120 Firemove is and remains the jibe master - at least if you use the initial speed from classic power jibes with medium curve radii as a benchmark. Only the occasional small spin-outs interfere with a brisk riding style. In our opinion, the RRD could also do with a slightly larger fin. The smaller brother Firemove 110 behaves in a similar way to the Fanatic duo: more agile, more lively, compared to the Fanatic Gecko 120 the board requires a little more guidance, the livelier, wobbly planing behaviour is fun, but also demands a little more attention from the rider. The pressure also needs to be dosed more carefully in the jibe, but then it goes into the turn with gusto and out again in the same way. With a width of 75 centimetres, the board is anything but small and also planes very well. With a 7.1 in normal planing winds, the RRD can keep up well with the 76 centimetre wide Gecko.
