Ten freeride boards took part in the big 2024 test. We give you a first look at the test group with their very different shape concepts!

These boards are everything, but definitely not boring! Ten of the latest 2024 freeride boards were tested at the big test on Tobago this year in sizes between 108 and 120 litres. This is ideal for lighter surfers in all conditions, while heavier chunks can go full throttle, especially in medium and strong winds.

Keyword full throttle: None of the boards have to hide in terms of top speed, with the sportiest models in the test group you don't have to flinch even in a match race with freeracers. But when it comes to manoeuvrability, you can't go wrong with any of the freeride boards in the test - even if some are better suited to surfers who are still fine-tuning their jibes than other models that require a little more guidance.

Different shape concepts

The broad spectrum in this test group also becomes clear when looking at the shapes: From straightforward, harmonious shapes to elaborate carvings at the tail, everything is included, from stretched and almost classic outlines to compact, wide shapes, the test candidates show very different concepts.

Above in the gallery we give you a first look at the test group, you will then find all the grades and results as well as the recommendations for different types in surf 5/2024, in stores from 23 April!

His surfing CV includes all the famous choppy water spots: As a teenager, he went from his home in Münsterland to the Ijsselmeer or the Brouwersdam, and during his civilian service on Sylt, after countless washes on the west side, the Königshafen became his preferred spot. After studying in Kiel and Heidkate, he was supposed to go to Hamburg “only for a short time”, but this short time has lasted for over ten years and has made him a “weekend warrior”. He goes on tour with his family and camper van as often as possible, often to the Baltic Sea, SPO or Denmark, but also likes to go to Finland, Sweden or Sardinia.
