To coincide with the test in the current issue of surf magazine 9-2023, we present the different shapes, features and equipment of the eleven boards tested here. This time not as a video, but in numerous pictures.

Freeride boards and intermediate boards with a volume of 160 litres are ideal for light wind freeriding, learning to loop surf, fast planing and power jibing. They are therefore the best option for anyone who wants to buy their first board. The skills learnt in surf lessons can be consolidated on these boards, which offer enough volume and stability for a secure stance. Some models also come with a soft EVA deck, which is good for your knees and feet.

What's more, these freeride boards around 160 litres will take you a long way towards becoming an advanced windsurfer. The first planing rush, trapeze surfing and the step into the loops - all this is possible with many of these boards. Whilst some manufacturers also allow a strap position far inwards, which is ideal for intermediates and children, others leave it at the typical moderate freeride plugs. On one board, the straps can even be screwed on far outwards for sporty riding.

This means that experienced freeriders can also ride to their heart's content in stronger winds. Although this group focussed on suitability for beginners and intermediates, some candidates in the test also turned out to be fast and sporty with decent freerace potential - a good option for families and heavy riders in particular.

The most important equipment and features are shown in the gallery above. You can see even more details about all the boards in the individual reviews:
