If you want more than Spock, Flaka and co., choose the new "Pro" version of the We One We Style. We tried out the freestyle board and found out: The name doesn't promise too much.

Freestyle Pro for an attractive 1884 euros, is that possible? Round outline, fat tail, cut-off nose at 214 centimetres - compact set-up - at first glance, this is what the most radical freestyle boards of recent times look like, including the We Style Pro from We One. The layman on the beach would describe it as "a bit bulky", which is understandable for someone who has the shape of a "classic" surfboard in mind. However, the manoeuvres for which this board is made are anything but classic, and so the shape also deviates greatly from this. An interesting feature of the modern shape of the We Style Pro are the angular, sharp rails right up to the nose area.

The board is delivered without a fin, we tested it with a current 19 and 20 mm freestyle fin. With plenty of screw options available, everyone should be able to find their ideal strap position on deck. The screws are hexagon socket.

The We One We Style Pro feels most at home in the air

The board planes well for such a radical shape and you can tell from the first few metres that it doesn't want to go straight for long - its lively ride almost screams for the first move. Especially when the water gets choppy, the We Style Pro demands a little more riding skill and sensitivity in the legs, as it doesn't cut through the chop like an arrow, but likes to rock up a little. The same applies to planing manoeuvres such as duck jibes or 360s. Pushing the tail into the jibe and turning it tight is sometimes more fun than trying to carve long radii. A slightly longer fin (up to 21 cm, as recommended) can provide more guidance and control. For experienced freestylers, however, the more demanding controllability is not a serious problem, the board can still be handled passably (especially in flat water) with shorter, more slide-friendly fins for advanced riders - they want one thing above all: to get airborne! And that's exactly where the We Style Pro feels most at home.

It comes out of the water with plenty of pop in every situation and rotates nimbly in all directions. The voluminous, yet relatively tapered tail feels agile and wants to keep bouncing as soon as it lands. The We Styler also has enough speed for such power moves, but needs to be well guided and actively accelerated - the slightly sticky feeling on the surface of the water can be easily overcome with an active riding style.

Sharp edges for crazy manoeuvres

The relatively angular rails, which are kept sharp on the underside right up to the front of the board, are quite noticeable when sliding and take some getting used to at the beginning, as they are not very forgiving and you can quickly tilt if you slightly misload them. However, if you use the sharp edge skilfully, you can use it to your advantage in crazy combinations such as Spock into Culos or Konos by letting it grip again at the right moment to stop the rotation and push off again. After a short familiarisation phase with the characteristic sliding properties, the We Style Pro also sweeps through double-slid manoeuvres such as double spocks or flaka 720s. The general compactness of the board also plays into your hands, because once you start spinning, the short, roundish shape doesn't want to stop spinning.

It is comfortable to surf in the straps supplied by We One; the barefoot testers only complained about the pads being a little slippery. According to the manufacturer, these will be replaced immediately with pads with a finer structure for better grip.

Surf summary of the We One We Style Pro

A board for advanced freestylers who want to take to the air. If you have what it takes, you can undoubtedly push yourself to become a pro. If you're not mainly working on power moves, you're making too big a compromise in terms of user-friendliness on the straights and in classic manoeuvres. The shape quickly reaches its natural limits in terms of controllability, but sets no upper limit, especially in air rotations.
