The new Nitro 3 model from Goya is designed to make the most of lean wave fare. We tested the stubby-like waveboard.

The Nitro complements the Custom 4 and Custom 3 models and is designed to guarantee that you can get as much out of moderate wave conditions as possible.

The Goya Nitro 3 on land

This is made possible by a bottom curve optimised for speed and a reduced length in conjunction with a wide swallowtail. At 220 centimetres, the Nitro 98 we tested is also around five centimetres shorter than the other two Goya models. The wide tail is designed to enable good planing and gliding when travelling downhill. To ensure good turning characteristics, the rear strap is positioned very far back. The straps and pads are flawless and comfortable.

The Nitro could be described as a stubby shape - compact and with a wide rear end.

How the Goya Nitro 3 rides

The Nitro 3 Pro takes sail pull well, starts to slip without a noticeable planing threshold and reaches a sporty planing position early on - this fulfils the basic requirements for typical Euro conditions with current. The water position is less saturated and significantly more lively than the Custom 4. Overall, the Nitro 3 offers a good mix of a sporty, free ride and the control required in choppy water. Tip: Mount the mast base more in the centre or slightly behind the mast, this makes the board a little freer.

Even on the edge, the board is nice and secure and carves through the jibe without any jitters. On the wave, the Nitro pulls through medium and wide radii with good grip and takes the speed nicely up to the lip of the wave. The turning characteristics are quite acceptable for a board of this size - especially turns with little speed and over the back foot can be turned quite radically. This also applies to ambitious wave moves such as backside 360s, where the board benefits from its compact dimensions and high basic speed.

surf conclusion:

The Goya Nitro lives up to its claim of being a good food processor. It impresses with good gliding power, a lively ride and more than acceptable turning characteristics. In our opinion, the Nitro is positioned between the Custom 3 and Custom 4 models in terms of planing characteristics and turning ability and should therefore be an option for all wavers for whom the Custom 3 is a bit staid and the Custom 4 too radical.
