Goya Windsurfing is launching a new construction variant: the new generation of the Custom Quad and the Freewave Model One comes in two different designs based on the same shapes. In addition to the familiar Pro Carbon construction, Goya is introducing the Haiku Package, which comes with a lighter construction and a board bag. According to the manufacturer, the new premium version is aimed at riders who are looking for maximum lightness and performance reactivity. The Haiku Package reduces the weight by 300 to 500 grams compared to the already lightweight Pro Carbon construction, depending on the model and size. In view of the low weight, the question arises as to whether this has been achieved by "omitting" or using higher quality materials. Tom Eierding from Goya distributor TPE: "More carbon is used and the mast track is also shorter. So we are not omitting any reinforcements, but are achieving the weight saving by using better materials".
It is not omitted. The lower weight is the result of higher quality materials
According to the manufacturer, the 84-litre version of the Custom Quad 9 Pro Carbon Haiku Package weighs in at 5.4 kilograms. The 115-litre One 13 is said to weigh just 6.6 kilograms, around 350 grams less than the 12 model we tested. Goya would like to point out that all weight specifications are subject to a tolerance of plus minus 7.5 per cent. Visually, the boards of the new generation are close to the familiar Goya design, only the decorative lines are more strongly emphasised.
The Haiku Package is the exact construction that the Goya team requested, according to the manufacturer. It is the closest thing to a custom competition board, as ridden by Marcilio Browne and Co. The premium version transforms the board shape into a performance-orientated product with light and reactive riding behaviour, according to the promise. Goya is positioning the Haiku Package as the ultimate premium upgrade that raises the characteristics of the standard construction to a higher level.
Each Haiku Package Board comes with an MFC Single Board Bag. The bag features a streamlined design without wall padding that optimises it for everyday use, commuting and light travel. An airflow ventilation patch prevents heat and moisture build-up inside. The bag has an integrated inner pocket for small items and an EVA-padded carrying handle. The standard Pro Carbon models are supplied without a board bag. Goya continues to offer the Pro Carbon construction for all waveboard models, while the Haiku Package is only available for Custom Quad 9 and One 13.
But the designers have obviously also continued to fine-tune the shapes. Tom Eierding describes the customisations: "The Custom Quad wave model has been made slightly narrower and the bottom curve and rails have also been adapted. This should mean that harmoniously carved turns work even better. The outline of the Thruster 5 has also been stretched a little. Here, too, we have modified the scoop rocker line and rails to achieve a more balanced turning behaviour. The Freewave One model is entering the new season with an unchanged shape, but the material structure of this board has been adapted, making it slightly lighter overall"explains Tom Eierding.
