STARBOARD: The loops - a dream. Soft, comfortable, easy to adjust. Only when fitting do the extremely stiff screws quickly cause calluses. However, it is almost impossible to loosen them yourself. This season, Starboard has fitted three different wave shapes to the straps: the rather stretched, longer Kode, the moderate NuEvo and the very wide Quad - all of which were tested in the very light carbon construction with visibly shimmering fabric. The Kode is supported by slightly narrower but longer fins than the NuEvo and can also be ridden with a single fin. The rocker line of the Kode is also less curved at the tail than the Quad and nuEvo, both of which have a clear tail kick. The NuEvo is further upgraded with extra-thick pads and costs less. The fins of the NuEvo are extremely wide apart and visibly splayed towards the direction of travel. The clear V in the NuEvo in front of the fins is probably responsible for the easy edging.
STARBOARD NuEvo 80 Carbon:A windsurf board that takes wave push even better than sail pull? The NuEvo wants to be the purest wave windsurfing board and it takes this title in the test. It glides only acceptably against the wave, but on the wave every little bump pushes almost more than you can pump with the sail. Extremely light and playful - soft but grippy - the NuEvo wags from rail to rail, allowing even mediocre wave surfers to rip really fast. Even if the turns are not optimally timed - it doesn't matter, the Evo irons it out and simply glides on through even the most jagged turn. It stands securely and calmly on the rail at any board speed, turns snappy on the lip, slides and catches itself again - as required - and as you can. The controlled soft water position ensures relaxation when gliding out, the board bobs stably and even on flat water the NuEvo comes up trumps with comfortable suspension and fluid and tight jibes.
