The Köster waveboard is also compact and scores with comfortable straps, which - like the fins - are fixed with the same Allen key. The tail has rather short 14 mm centre fins, but the Pyro gets up to speed early in the planing phase, becomes fast and immediately encourages you to chase yourself over the first ramp into orbit. The water position on the straight is very full, in the chop you almost wish there was a little more lift over the fins to allow the board to run more freely. Our tip: mount the mast base and straps quite far back, heavy riders (>85 kilos) could also consider slightly larger (15cm) centre fins.
On the wave, the Pyro once again sets off fireworks: it picks up speed well through the bottom turn even in unpressurised waves, pulls over the edge with perfect control and can also be turned very variably up to the wave lip - assuming a little more pressure than the lightest-footed boards in the group. This means that nothing stands in the way of real "Köster moves" such as takas, lipslides or 360s.
surf conclusion: The unchanged Pyro 87 is very well-balanced, covers a wide range of applications and is equally impressive in the Baltic Sea as it is in thick ocean waves.
