The Ultra Pro heralds a new era at Starboard - the board has nothing to do with its predecessor, the UltraKode - the outline is rounder and the bottom curve has been completely revised. The short mast track has been lowered in the deck to improve smoothness in the bottom turn. Despite a significantly narrower tail, the new Ultra planes effortlessly. The lightweight board runs fast, sporty and direct, giving it plenty of potential to launch itself over the first wave. In rough conditions, however, the board also requires more concentration; the new Ultra is not a control miracle that runs like on rails.
Compared to the previous model, the board has changed 180 degrees on the wave: The board can be edged rail-to-rail with minimal effort, the radii are extremely variable - ideal for vertical turns and crashing cutbacks at the critical point of the wave. The edge needs to be actively guided in choppy conditions, but then you are rewarded with maximum turning potential for all big moves such as takas and 360s.
surf conclusion: Top turning potential meets really good planing performance - a combination that scores points at all wave spots worldwide. In rough conditions, wave beginners are challenged a little more.
