The high-quality features of the Flikka Custom Quad with carbon boxes and comfortable pads definitely meets with broad approval. The straps are double-bolted throughout and solid threaded screws are also used. At 5.84 kilos, the S-Glass construction is nice and light, and other designs are available on request, with an adapted stance or in various colours. The underwater surface is mono-concave and has a lot of rocker in the tail, using the "Rocker 2" configuration. The centre fins flex and the side fins are profiled on one side, as is common on surfboards.
Despite a nominal 87 litres, the Flikka Quad feels smaller and noticeably more tippy when dipping and crossing waves. When planing, a good portion of sensitivity is required to overcome the small planing threshold, but then the shape pulls away powerfully and achieves a good top speed. When jumping, the quad hangs compactly and lightly on the foot. The first jibe against the swell gives you an idea of what to expect: unlimited turning potential! The Flikka Quad turns easily from the ankle, rail-to-rail edging is absolutely effortless and the board can be steered exactly where you want it to go. Carving a long bottom turn over the rail and then pulling vertically up to the lip of the wave or into a 360 is perfectly possible with the Flikka.
The shape of the Flikka Custom Quad also allows cutbacks on the point and controlled slides. However, the prerequisite is that you have enough propulsion - either through powerful waves or sail pull - to reach the lip of the wave at speed. If you are still a little hesitant and surf upright during the bottom turn, you will lose speed earlier and will be less able to utilise the Flikka's great potential. Thanks to the upturn in the bow area, the lively board also fits wonderfully into small, steep Baltic waves without nose-diving into the cutback.
The Custom Quad from Flikka sets the benchmark in terms of radicality and manoeuvrability. You don't have to be Bernd Roediger or Leon Jamaer to utilise the board's potential - but it helps if your level is relatively close. surf tip: If in doubt, choose a volume size larger!
