GunSails is now equipping its Cross, Expert and Select series booms with a completely newly developed front piece. The design has been significantly slimmed down and, according to product manager Philipp Grzybowski, should be 100 to 150 grams lighter than the old model. The smallest carbon fork, the Select Slim 140-190, is said to be as much as 200 grams lighter, and the SDM option has also been omitted. All other models can still be customised with an adapter for both diameters.
The centrepiece and most striking feature of the new front piece is the aluminium locking bracket: "It saves a few more grams and is also ultra-stiff," explains Philipp. Several variants were tried out, and the aluminium construction proved to be better than the usual hard plastic and is also said to be more durable. The angle to the mast is also variable on the new front piece and the contact surface on the mast is relatively large for even load distribution. Only the affordable Advantage range of GunSails booms will continue to be equipped with the previous front piece for the time being.
