The Severne Red Wing was already in 1400 cm² as extraterrestrially good and the 1200 fits in seamlessly. The 1200 foil also only needs a very low speed to take off and then convinces with outstanding flight stability around both axes and extremely easy foil flying. Even with the slightly shorter fuselage, any unwanted movements are very slow and you have enough time to react. The 90 centimetre mast, which also offers plenty of ground clearance for cable waves, also contributes to this.
The radii can be varied quite well in the jibe - the outstanding feature, however, is the inherent stability once you have turned the corner. The foil does not change direction abruptly, even under light, unwanted loads. You maintain a very stable course without sinking and can quickly move your foot from the edge to the front strap at the exit of the turn and continue foiling smoothly and unhindered. This makes the foil jibe a lot of fun.
This is supported by the perfectly fitting Severne Alien, on which the foot slides almost automatically from the edge into the new front strap. Board and wing width also fit together very well. The foil only generates a slight capsize moment, the board is not canted like on a race foil, but even on a steep closehauled course you are only slightly inclined upwind.
The combination achieves a decent freeride speed with well-suited sail sizes between 4.7 and 7.0 square metres, but you shouldn't expect a speed rush like on the Fin. On this set-up, the focus is on easy, early foiling with the greatest possible comfort. This is also ensured by the board's soft entry without braking impulse, both on the straight and in the jibe.
The Severne Red Wing 1200 is a very easy to foil freeride set-up for underpowered foiling with a focus on comfort and manoeuvring.
