With a sparing application of paint, just one foil box and only the loop dowels required for foil freeriding, the Alien weighs in at a light 7.5 kilos. The foil is also particularly light, thanks to the low weight of the front wing. It can be mounted wobble-free with comparatively few screws (all with Allen heads) and the head adapter sits on the mast as if it were made from one piece. With a wingspan of 76.5 centimetres, the front wing is narrow and easy to handle. Very pleasing: All wings are well defused, rounded and the tips of the stabiliser bend downwards. The trailing edge of the mast is not razor-sharp either. This minimises the risk of injury.
The Severne combo seems a little smaller and more agile underfoot, which is probably due to the lack of inert mass, because with a width of 75 centimetres and 125 litres, the board is fully in line. With little pumping assistance, the 1400 wing lifts the board very harmoniously and even at low take-off speeds - without generating sudden lift. The lift upwards is very smooth and predictable. This is probably due to the positioning of the wing close to the mast and the particularly long fuselage - two features that promise good controllability. And in this respect, the Alien's behaviour inspires maximum confidence. Rolling movements around the longitudinal axis are hardly noticeable, the board can only be edged moderately if necessary, for example on upwind courses with a little more pull in the sail.
Above all, however, the dreaded high-low axis appears to be electronically stabilised. The board keeps the height as stable as a DJI drone in cinema mode. In gusts, the board only rises in slow motion, the long mast also gives plenty of time to react, and when counter-steering, the bow lowers again in an equally cushioned manner. The straps are equally well positioned for slipping in quickly and for sporty freeriding, and in the jibe you almost automatically slip into the "new" strap with your front foot when skiing. The flown jibe allows you to foil in many radii, always with a stable turning position that requires hardly any steering and, above all, with constant height control. There is probably no easier way to fly a board through the jibe.
The Alien-Redwing combination is perfectly harmonised and particularly light and easy to handle. On the water, the duo impresses with the simplest flight characteristics. No other set flies more stable or controlled over long distances and in manoeuvres.
Extremely stable in flight, super easy to jibe
