The brand with the special ideas has a completely sealed extension in its programme, which also comes up with some unique, interesting detailed solutions.

The RDM Z90 from S4LT is one of those parts that you simply have to grab. The completely red anodised fitting and the never-before-seen length adjustment simply have to be grasped in the truest sense of the word.

S4LT: the extension that seals the mast.

A full mast increases the weight of the rig - at least until the water has drained out again. And in the event that the rig and board are separated, a rig with a sealed mast will certainly stay up longer. The designers have therefore realised the length adjustment without holes and sealed the pivot hole at the top. A solid rubber gasket between the mast and the sleeve ring on the extension prevents water from penetrating. The inventors therefore list a number of advantages:

  • Stylish anodised aluminium construction
  • Waterproof design, so the extension and mast remain free of water
  • Suitable for sails with 0-degree arranged pulley
  • Suitable for sails with 90-degree pulley arrangement
  • Fast trimming using loop technology
  • Power-saving trimming thanks to 6x deflection
  • Easy to adjust adjusting ring
  • Trimming to the centimetre
  • Minimum extension only 5 centimetres (like zero base)
  • Scale with marking option for all your sail sizes
  • Premium Marlow Formula 3.8mm rope
  • Z90 - A190 with an adjustment range of 5 to 19 centimetres
  • Z90 - A380 with an adjustment range of 5 to 38 centimetres

surf impression: The S4LT Z90 is a very high quality product. The roller block allows very good threading options for all different roller blocks from sail manufacturers (with the exception of the Severne 4-fold block). The length adjustment seems a little more delicate, and the sealing ring also has to be positioned - perhaps not ideal if self-confessed hectic riggers need to quickly adjust the length on a sandy beach. The price for the 19-centimetre version is 99.50 euros and the 38-centimetre extension costs 109.5 euros.

Stephan Gölnitz comes from Bochum and had Holland as his home windsurfing territory for many years before moving to Munich in 1996 for the job of test editor at surf magazine. The materials engineering graduate worked as a surf instructor on the Ijsselmeer during his studies and competed for several seasons for the Essen sailing team in the Surfbundesliga and the Funboard Cup. He completed a traineeship at surf-Magazin in the test department and since then has actively accompanied almost all tests on the boom and for more than 10 years also as a photographer. Stephan has covered many thousands of test kilometers, mainly on Lake Garda and in Langebaan, but also in Egypt and Tobago. He gets his hands on over 100 new sails and boards every year as his company car. Privately, he prefers to surf with a foil on Lake Walchensee or “unfortunately far too rarely” in the waves. SUP is Stephan's second passion, which he pursued for several years at numerous SUP races. Today, he prefers to paddle on river tours with family or friends - even for several days.
