Assessing the wind correctly is always difficult, especially for beginners. Quick and reliable help is now available with the wind meters for smartphones from Vavuud. Simply plug them into the headphone socket and off you go!

We were able to try out two Vavuud anemometers. Our test impression:

In combination with the free Vaavud app (available from GooglePlay or the AppStore), both offer windsurfers a practical tool for measuring wind strength at the spot. Both the Mjolnir model (from 38 euros) and the Sleipnir (from 51 euros) can be easily connected to many common smartphones via the headphone socket and measure the wind strength with a tolerable error rate (+/- 4 %). Vertical alignment is important here; holding the device at an angle increases the error rate.

Average wind and maximum gusts are displayed. The Sleipnir model also provides the wind direction for an additional charge - a factor that you can do without if in doubt. After registering once in the Vavuud app, you can post your current measurement live via the smartphone's GPS function and also view the measurement data of other users at the spots. In theory, this also provides a decision-making aid when choosing a spot. The only drawback is that, like almost everything on the internet, the posts should be treated with a little caution. If a user on site really blows into the measuring device, there is a publicly visible entry, which could quickly turn out to be a hoax after a rushed journey.

Nevertheless, oursurf conclusion positive: The anemometers work perfectly and deliver useful results. The app is simple, clear and therefore highly recommended!
