Cut and UV protection: New protection products from ION

ION is expanding its protection range with three new product series that will be available from the spring-summer 2026 season. The Sun Pro series offers UV protection for use on the beach and on the water. The Storm Pro series protects against wind chill in uncomfortable conditions. As a third innovation, the manufacturer is presenting the Surf Shield series, which is primarily aimed at foilers of all disciplines - from wing, prone, kite, windsurf, pump to e-foiling. This series was developed in collaboration with Diston and uses HPPE fabric, which is also used in ballistic waistcoats, glass gloves, climbing ropes and firefighter uniforms. The material achieves cut protection level 4 out of 5 and, according to the manufacturer, sets a new benchmark in water sports. In addition to impact and abrasion protection, the Surf Shield series also offers protection from the sun and wind. The development is based on findings from professional alpine skiing and has been tested in accordance with the FIS-DITF standard.

Pro Series for UV and wind protection

The Pro Series is divided into two lines with different protective functions. The Sun Pro series focuses on UV defence during sun-intensive sessions. The Storm Pro series, on the other hand, protects against wind chill and cooling. Both lines are available as rashguards and wetshirts, each in versions for men and women. The Sun Pro series rashguards cost 59.99 euros for men and women. For the Storm Pro series, the price for men's rashguards is 64.99 euros. The Storm Pro series wetshirts are available for 89.99 euros for both men and women. All models are available in sizes 46/XS, 48/S, 50/M, 52/L, 54/XL and 56/XXL. The colour range includes the variants 665 silver-green and 156 grey-melange.

HPPE material at the heart of the Surf Shield series

The Surf Shield series uses HPPE fabric, a high-strength fibre that is established in safety-critical applications. The material achieves cut protection level 4 out of 5 and therefore offers significantly higher resistance than conventional water sports clothing, according to ION. The series comprises five product variants: Rashguard long sleeve, wetshirt long sleeve, boardshorts 20 inch, long tights and short tights. All products are designed as unisex models and are available in sizes 48/S, 50/M, 52/L, 54/XL and 56/XXL. The colour scheme is limited to 900 black. The rashguard costs 329.99 euros, the wetshirt 279.99 euros. The boardshorts are available for 209.99 euros, the long tights for 319.99 euros and the short tights for 189.99 euros. The development was based on standards from alpine racing, where similar demands are placed on cut and abrasion resistance.
