If you want to be on the safe side, you should choose clothing that has been certified by independent testing institutes. UV protection standards check the quality and level of UV protection, but they vary in their rigour and significance.

In order to offer consumers the greatest possible safety, independent textile research institutes in Germany ( www.hohenstein.de ), Austria ( https://www.oeti.biz/de/ ) and Switzerland ( https://www.testex.com/de/ ) the UV STANDARD 801 was developed. The very strict procedure exposes garments to extreme stress such as heavy stretching, moisture or mechanical influences and determines the lowest protection factor on this basis. This value, the Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF), indicates the factor by which the skin's own protection time is extended without causing skin reddening or sunburn. The UV STANDARD 801 thus certifies safe sun protection even when clothing is wet, stretched and used. The certificate is reviewed annually. New fabrics and new colours are also retested. All products from the Munich-based label hyphen sports are certified by the Hohenstein Institute in accordance with the strict UV Standard 801.

Maximum UV protectionAll hyphen sports fabrics absorb and reflect the dangerous UVA and UVB rays even when wet, stretched and after abrasion. They are light and airy and still provide safe, long-lasting, high UV protection, usually UPF 80.
