The fascination sometimes lies in the simplicity of things. Where other boom mounts have an elaborate screw mechanism, the BoomiX only has a simple rubber band. Developer Karl Ledergerber has set himself the goal of dispensing with screws and moving parts wherever possible in order to reduce the susceptibility of the products to faults. The BoomiX therefore "only" consists of a single CNC-milled aluminium part, which is wound tightly onto the boom with a rubber band and then fixed in a type of clamp. This method is as simple as it is functional - the mount sits firmly on the boom and if the rubber band should wear out after a while, it can be replaced easily and cheaply.
However, the consistent absence of moving parts also means that the viewing angle is somewhat limited. The angle from top to bottom can of course be varied, but it is not possible to pan sideways - with the BoomiX, the cam films either straight forwards or backwards. The BoomiX Action Cam Mount costs 59 dollars. The developer is currently also working on simple adapters that will allow the BoomiX to be securely anchored to the mast of a foil or to any metallic surface using a magnet - we will keep you up to date.
