The Vapor Steamer C-Zip is the new flagship in Prolimit's neoprene collection. The model is available in two versions: a 5/4 without bonnet (519 euros) and a 6/4 hooded (549 euros). Incidentally, the Vapor C-Zip is made from natural rubber, which dispenses with petroleum-based components and solvents. So far, so good - but we wanted to know whether the hooded version in 6/4 can also keep you warm in very cold temperatures below five degrees Celsius and what advantages the new fastening system offers.
The soft and stretchy material around the legs and leg cuffs is noticeable as soon as you step in. The entry area has been completely redesigned and differs from all standard winter models: There is a stretchy skirt on the inside, which is quite easy to get into. Getting the Neo over your shoulders requires a little more mobility and strength than the standard models with front or even back zips. The manufacturer advised us to choose a size larger if in doubt - our tester, who was 191 centimetres tall and weighed around 90 kilos, ended up with a size XXL. However, this proved to be a good fit, the step-in comfort was acceptable and the fit was appropriate. In other words, if you're wavering between two sizes, it's better to go for the larger model.
Finally, the bonnet and collar are pulled over the head from behind. The zip does not need to be threaded, can be closed easily and ends at the top of the shoulder. The advantage: no water can penetrate the chest, and the Prolimit Vapor C-Zip does not have the problem of some front zip neoprene, where a surge of cold water rushes in from the side during washes and falls.
The wearing comfort is also great. The neoprene feels very stretchy and supple in all areas and the Neo fits like a second skin. Inside, the wetsuit has a large area of what the brand calls "Thermal Rebound" material - a plush layer that obviously retains body heat well, even at temperatures well below five degrees Celsius the wetsuit was still warm enough. The waterproof sealed seams also contribute to the overall very good thermal insulation.
The design of the bonnet also leaves nothing to be desired, with a soft finish on the face that can also be protected against the ingress of ice water using a drawstring. The neck area is also pleasantly stretchy, making it easy to turn your head.
Stretch, comfort, thermal insulation - the Vapor C-Zip impresses across the board. Water ingress is minimised thanks to the new entry system, so the Neo absolutely lives up to its premium claim.
