The NeilPryde Fusion provides a lot of planing power in light and medium winds, it is stable and comes with high speed.

The Fusion 5.5 can be rigged on both a 400 and a 430 mast. The sail is one of the strongest representatives of the group in the direct planing duel. This is due to the fact that the soft profile loads up immediately even without pumping and always brings a noticeable ground pull to the back hand. This allows you to put pressure on the fin early on, which ensures effortless planing, above-average planing through wind holes and a great average speed. If the wind picks up, the concept takes its toll, as the centre of effort moves backwards earlier in gusts - the boom then needs to be retrimmed so that the light sail feel is not lost.

In manoeuvres, the Fusion is particularly suited to carved jibes, where it pulls powerfully through the turn and the batten rotation is wonderfully smooth. Of course, the Pryde model can also do duck jibes, 360s and spin loops, but the Fusion is less playful than the handling wonders of the group due to its longer boom and powerful profile.

Surf summary of the NeilPryde Fusion 5.5

The Fusion scores in light and medium winds with top planing power, stability and a very high average speed. It is therefore better suited to freeride and freemove boards than for basic freestyle and trips into the surf.

Deputy Editor in Chief surf

Stephan Gölnitz comes from Bochum and had Holland as his home windsurfing territory for many years before moving to Munich in 1996 for the job of test editor at surf magazine. The materials engineering graduate worked as a surf instructor on the Ijsselmeer during his studies and competed for several seasons for the Essen sailing team in the Surfbundesliga and the Funboard Cup. He completed a traineeship at surf-Magazin in the test department and since then has actively accompanied almost all tests on the boom and for more than 10 years also as a photographer. Stephan has covered many thousands of test kilometers, mainly on Lake Garda and in Langebaan, but also in Egypt and Tobago. He gets his hands on over 100 new sails and boards every year as his company car. Privately, he prefers to surf with a foil on Lake Walchensee or “unfortunately far too rarely” in the waves. SUP is Stephan's second passion, which he pursued for several years at numerous SUP races. Today, he prefers to paddle on river tours with family or friends - even for several days.
