The Goya Nexus impresses in terms of riding stability, handling and feel. With a slightly modified trim, there is even a light wind gear.

SDM or RDM - no sail invites you to make a completely free choice. The mast sleeve of the Goya Nexus is so wide and the top cap so large that a one-piece, thick Rotho Wave mast from 1987 would easily fit inside. Of course, we tested it on a brand-new Goya RDM with 80 per cent carbon. Above all, it gives the sail plenty of air in the wide mast sleeve for silky-smooth manoeuvring.

The Goya Nexus is set up with medium to strong loose leech, the mini battens prevent any flutter and support the concept for a very compact and harmonious sail feeling. With just a little tension on the outhaul, the Nexus can form a really deep profile that also pulls well in the lower wind range. But only with comparatively much tension on the solid clew ring can a really large wind range be achieved, in which the sail then lies stable in the hand at all times without pressure point wandering.

The Nexus is not fazed by anything

Because even if the sail has very flat battens on the bottom, there is always more profile in the sail over the wide mast sleeve than you would expect. Trimmed flatter, it loses a few per cent of planing power, but then gives a very uncomplicated ride with high stability, good damping and the good impression of a sail that is not upset by strong gusts or chop. In this trim, the battens are behind the mast edge, do not touch the mast in the jibe and thus ensure a smooth rotation in all manoeuvres.

The Goya Nexus is easy to pull down onto the deck and is nice and stable ("curled") for freeriding on the board. With its very good controllability and only minimal pressure point migration in strong gusts, it covers a wide wind range and also looks particularly solid when surfing. This is perhaps also due to the slightly thicker mono film, which stabilises the sail silently even in choppy water, as well as the calm, stable behaviour in fluctuating wind conditions.

Surf summary of the Goya Nexus

Although it is categorised by Goya as a "budget sail", the Nexus impresses in this group with good equipment. The ride feel, stability and handling are ideal for manoeuvre surfers and intermediates. For light wind freeriding at the lower planing limit, the all-round trim should be ignored and the sail should be set up very bulbous.
