From a power wave sail, the Hybrid HD mutates into an all-round to freeride sail with increasing surface area. In the test size 5.6, GA Sails has succeeded in creating a real all-rounder: The Hybrid HD has a pleasantly dampened effect and forms a deep belly when it is first hauled tight. As a result, it is stable in the airflow, lies quietly in the hand and pulls very passably over the planing threshold - even if you go about your work passively (without pumping) and with moderate technique.
On the straights, it then offers a characteristic that probably 99 per cent of all surfers can live with: The Hybrid HD is easy to ride, the pressure point is stable in the hands and the sail also scores points in manoeuvres with its easy handling and smooth batten rotation. As the wind increases, the hybrid can be pulled a little flatter on the boom to stabilise the pressure point. On the other hand, the profile is wonderfully flat in manoeuvres such as duck jibes.
The Hybrid HD looks like the blueprint of the freemove concept and combines high riding comfort, good performance and easy manoeuvring. This makes it just as suitable for manoeuvres such as jibes and spin loops as it is for trips into the micro surf or basic freestyle.
