Despite its good freeride suitability, the GunSails Torro is also great fun for manoeuvring.

With good manoeuvring characteristics and top performance in a straight line, the GunSails Torro offers one of the best overall packages in the test. On top of that, it is one of the cheapest sails with a mast.

Just like an automatic gearbox, where you don't have to worry about the right gear, GunSails takes the decision out of your hands when trimming. There is a point in the sail as a marker for the luff trim - that's it! And it fits amazingly well. A strong pull on the luff extrusion and stiff battens stabilise the GunSails Torro so well that you only need to fine-tune the outhaul. Without tension, the battens push far past the mast. But even set up like this, the Torro would already work. For a lighter sail feel and better handling, the battens are pulled back properly, but still rest against the side of the mast - more than with all other sails. The profile with a deep belly at the bottom and lots of twist at the top offers the best planing performance and top control without trimming.

Windsurfing with autopilot

And the Torro is particularly fast to boot. It is extremely stable in the hand, with an even pull on the mast and back hand, balanced and poised like a small freeride sail. You hang into the harness, set it to autopilot and only have to take control again just before the jibe. In between, the GunSails Torro lies flush on the deck, doesn't fidget and doesn't buckle even in choppy water. However, it is less light as a feather and playful, but rather conveys a solid freeride feeling: it surfs fast and feels that way too. The high riding stability makes it possible to surf very quickly with the sail even without having learnt the finesse, but also requires a little more input if you want to move it.

Nevertheless, it performs well in jibing without any restrictions. Some other sails just seem even more agile and light-handed and simply encourage more new moves. Intermediates get a sail with an "easy surfing" rating, and if your choice of manoeuvres focuses on jumping, power jibes, duck jibes and the occasional 360, the GunSails Torro is also the right choice. For heating and jibing on small freeride and freemove boards, it is the first choice.

Conclusion on the GunSails Torro

The GunSails Torro is the most favourable sail, especially in the package with the matching, very light RDM mast. It performs well in the most important manoeuvring disciplines and offers the best performance in the group for strong wind freeriding with particularly easy handling. It is a little heavier, but particularly solidly equipped.
