The Naish Edge manages an incredible balancing act. In manoeuvres and in moderate waves it is almost reminiscent of the Force 5 wave sail, and on flat water it is also convincing in freeride mode - and all this with very easy to adjust trim and in a wide wind range. How does it manage that?

First of all, the luff trim allows a lot of leeway: even with very little loose leech, the sail has a stabilised profile and good controllability. With more leech, it appears lighter and gains weight in strong winds without giving up its good stability. You can hardly go far wrong with the luff trim. The Naish Edge also makes it easy to adjust the outhaul. It can be hooked in loosely or tensioned slightly to moderately. The centre of effort always remains well under control and the planing performance is not immediately stalled with more tension. Even intermediate riders will quickly find a suitable trim.

Wave-compatible, but not boring even when freeriding

But the Naish Edge can do much more, because with its flat batten and high-cut lower leech, it encourages manoeuvres, looks handy and is even "wave-ready" in relation to its size. The short boom, flat batten and agile feel play into its hands - especially if you trim it a little flatter. In a performance comparison with a little more power (loosely attached outhaul), it planes very well and is stable in the hands. Although it doesn't come close to the really powerful gliders, it accelerates well and doesn't feel boring when freeriding. The sail is compact in every trim - nothing flutters, the sail twists very harmoniously - and all this even on the "only" 60 per cent RDM mast.

Only in absolute light wind trim can you feel the chop of the choppy waves in the sail, but it is rather gently damped. With the back hand, you can accelerate sensitively in power trim and put the sail down on the deck quite well with a solid freeride feeling. This means that even a large freeride board can be kept free and pressed to a good top speed. In manoeuvres, the sail rotates easily and without jerking.

Surf summary of the Naish Edge

The Naish Edge is a sail with light and buttery-soft manoeuvring handling and a matching outline with a high-cut lower leech. Nevertheless, it is not only suitable for manoeuvre surfers, but also for intermediates and freeriders. The correct trim is particularly easy to set even without visual markings in the sail.
