Freemoving sails are the handy little brothers of high-performance freeride sails and at the same time the more powerful big sisters of flat wave sails. This makes them the perfect all-rounders on smaller boards between 90 and 120 litres, but also on large-volume upwind boards. Because planing performance and manoeuvre handling are very well balanced here, these sails can be classified as probably the best sails for the power jibe: for learning, improving and perfecting. But duck jibes, 360s and the like are also possible thanks to the high input speed and very good handling. What's more, these all-rounders are cheaper than pure wave sails, and two "economy models" (GA-Sails Pilot and Severne Convert) from the brand segment also compete in the test.
At the Test on Tobago and in Langebaan, the freemove sails were used on freemove boards around 95 litres as well as on freeriders around 125 litres. In extensive manoeuvre laps, we tested the ride feel, handling and various trims, among other things. During comparison runs on two identical boards, we then focussed on planing, gliding and speed potential. We were able to cover a very wide wind range, from very light conditions at the lower planing limit to powerful overpower sessions.
