Preview: Designs, features, trim - these 4.7 freemoving sails are being tested

In the period from November to January, we extensively tested eight new freemove models in sizes 4.5 to 4.7 square metres for you. While in smaller sizes the choice is limited to wave sails alone due to a lack of alternatives, in the 4.7 size you still have the choice: wave or freemove sails? In order to answer this question, we also tested two pure wave sails in addition to the eight test models. First of all: there are clear differences in glide power, neutrality and handling! You can find out which type of sail suits you better and which of the tested freemoving sails offers the best all-round suitability in surf issue 3-2024, which will be available from newsagents from 21 February 2024. As always, subscribers will receive the issue a few days earlier.

Manuel Vogel, born in 1981, lives in Kiel and learned to windsurf at the age of six at his father's surf school. In 1997, he completed his training as a windsurfing instructor and worked for over 15 years as a windsurfing instructor in various centers, at Kiel University sports and in the coaching team of the “Young Guns” freestyle camps. He has been part of the surf test team since 2003. After completing his teaching degree in 2013, he followed his heart and started as editor of surf magazine for the test and riding technique sections. Since 2021, he has also been active in wingfoiling - mainly at his home spots on the Baltic Sea or in the waves of Denmark.
