Surfing for hours in a wonderfully relaxed manner, regardless of whether the wind is up or down: the GunSails Spectro is fast and stable and also attracts with a favourable price.

With smooth and powerful power delivery, GunSails predecessor models already opened up the favourable entry into the upper freerace class. The Spectro, a fusion of the Vector and Exceed models, continues this tradition. And in the usual solid outfit: with thick monofilm materials, plus solid reinforcements at the neuralgic points and on the batten pockets. The muffled, calming sound when the sail rotates is the benchmark, just like the door slam of a Mercedes sedan door, which is often used in comparisons.

The sail is quick and easy to set up, the trim is easy to find. Even without tension on the outhaul, the sail is full and stable in the hand throughout the entire wind range - solid, safe and blessed with plenty of horsepower when required, just like the armoured limousines of the VIPs. The Spectro is not only stable in the hand, but also rotates extremely smoothly in the jibe. The comparatively higher weight is noticeable, but the cambers go quietly smacking around the mast like freshly oiled and the deep profile changes sides very willingly.

The power delivery of the Spectro is very even, with good planing power even in wind holes. The sail power is always well centred between the hands, but still leaves a little leeway to turn up the throttle with the rear hand. This ensures good traction when the wind drops if you keep the pressure on the fin with a little more body tension and pull at the back - this characteristic also helps the GunSail to perform well when going upwind.

In comparison, the Spectro is particularly homogeneous, without flutter or compression, but not quite as nimble in manoeuvres as a much lighter North Sail, for example. Once you have set the right trim (luff very close to the FRED and very slight tension on the outhaul), it is wonderfully relaxed and can be kept in the upper speed range for hours in changing wind conditions - without the pilot losing too much sweat.

surf summary of the GunSails Spectro 7.8

The GunSails Spectro is a powerful and fast sail that covers a very wide wind range in one trim. It appears slightly heavier, but rotates like clockwork and saves noticeable power over long distances thanks to its stable position.
