Tight and direct, with a very wide wind range: the Naish Cam Freerace is fast and sporty without having to compromise too much on comfort.

The latest Cam Freerace is a Naish sail "al dente". Anyone who is familiar with the Naish wave sail range will be surprised by a ride that is more reminiscent of pasta "with a bite" than a wobbly Hawaiian burger - but which is perfectly suited to this freerace sail group. With more emotional references to Ducati than Harley-Davidson: sporty, taut, direct and, above all, really fast. Naish developer Michi Schweiger has apparently not forgotten his time in Italy on Maui.

To give the sail its flawless profile, you first have to pull hard on the luff - this is tug-of-war, not rubber twist. But this effort is not in vain for the clean profile, which then unfolds in front of you with a good belly (a little further back in the sail) and a very evenly twisting top. Now you can also examine the solid materials, from the foot sheet to the mast sleeve, no savings have been made. The solid-coloured mono film makes for a classy appearance, while the elegantly curved sail window still allows you to see through - to the surfers downwind that you will overtake.

It's not the sail that sets the limit, but man and board

And there are probably a few to see, because the Naish Freerace consistently delivers very good performance across the entire wind range, without turbo lag or fear of too much RPM. With the outhaul only loosely attached, you can achieve good, if not the best planing performance. With minimal pull on the outhaul, you almost never need to trim again. This changes very little of the planing performance and the sail now retains its slightly damped yet very direct characteristics over the entire wind range: from planing to surrendering to too much wind - not for the sail, but for you or your board.

The Naish is stable over the board, is very easy to guide and stabilise and therefore enables effortless, fast surfing. The controlled, agile feel conveys a touch of lightness, which is also reflected in manoeuvres: In the jibe, the sail planes quickly, but also with a solid, noticeable camber feeling that cannot be ignored.

Surf summary of the Naish Cam Freerace 7.8

A sporty, taut, beautifully shaped profile with very pleasantly dosed lift - for plenty of power even in light winds and yet good control at top speed. Measured against its power potential, it appears light and easy to handle.
