Decent freerace performance with the best manoeuvring handling and riding comfort - the new Sailloft Passion immediately convinced us with its balanced mix.

Six battens, two camber and an RDM mast as the backbone - these are some of the striking features of the fusion of the two predecessor sails Mission and Traction. Sailloft is thus following the same path as GunSails or Severne to make the sail range clearer and to combine the strengths of two lines in one sail in the camber segment in the best possible way. The use of RDM masts is still exciting in these sail sizes. However, Sailloft RDM masts have already proven to be just as stiff as SDM masts in past (laboratory) tests.

This means that the sail, with its neatly curved luff track, needs a lot of pull when trimming, which gives it a stable profile. For the best controllability you can pull in a lot of slack, without trim points you may need one or two attempts for the perfect luff trim. Then, in very light planing winds, the sail can be surfed completely without clew tension, lies close to the boom and develops a planing power that is almost reminiscent of the former Traction. A really wide panoramic wind window covers the sail with at least a slight pull on the outhaul, then it is even more manageable, almost playful in the group and also gains a lot of top speed.

Sporty freeride feeling with a wide range

The ride feels very homogeneous and firm, there is not much working in the sail and yet it offers light, comfortable damping. If you had to specify the ingredients free and race on the package in the freerace group, then the Sailloft would probably be 60 to 40 per cent, in contrast to a NeilPryde or Point-7 with what feels like a 30/70 distribution. In the test, the Sailloft was particularly well received - because it conveys a handy, compact feeling, to which the easy-to-grip, thin mast also contributes - and yet it is by no means too soft or spongy, but conveys a sporty freeride feeling.

It is particularly stable in "all-round trim" with light to moderate clew tension throughout the entire wind range, making it very easy to surf fast. The Passion is much easier to handle than the Traction or Mission, but with a similar power output.

Surf summary of the Sailloft Passion 7.7

The Sailloft combines very decent freerace performance with a sporty freeride feeling and thus enables the easiest access to good performance with maximum range. And with the best manoeuvring handling and riding comfort.
