North Sails S_Type 8.4
North Sails S_Type 8.4
surf recommendation: Overall, one of the most balanced sails, which is just very tight on the mast. Light, stable and fast. Fits freeride boards as well as freerace boards.

On land: The North is pre-tensioned with bombastic forces on the 460 mast like a competition bow. When pushing through, you can see "slack" above the boom early on, until the trim is right at the top, you have to pull a lot further. On the water: The S_Type plays in the premier league when duffing, manoeuvring, beach or water starts. The compact dimensions pay off, the sail is comparatively light and the camber rotates like clockwork. You need the cleanest technique for pumping, because you can't expect any flex from the pre-tensioned mast. But it doesn't matter much, because the sail can be set up bellied and passively planing well - without getting bitchy early on. And this is what particularly characterises the S_Type. In one trim, it covers an extremely wide wind range, appears light even when travelling and can still be moved with comparative agility. The sail is direct and very stable in the hands, you only feel wind fluctuations as speed changes, the pressure point does not move. The low holding forces and the fairly easy manoeuvring make it look small and recommend it to lighter riders.
