On land: The new Gaastra cloths look solid as usual, the new material brings new colour into play. You can hardly tell the difference between the Manic and Poison in terms of the sheet layout. The luff uses more X-Ply on the Poison and Dacron on the Manic.
On the water: "Balanced", "great mix", "uncomplicated" - the attributes of the testers consistently attest to the Poison's best all-round characteristics within this group. Like most Gaastra sails, it requires very little slack in the leech and remains stable and easy to control for a long time even with the clew only casually attached. Control can then be further improved by pulling the clew in a controlled manner, so that the 5.4 can also impress in strong winds. The slightly damped sail is stable in the hand, gives good feedback with a very light pull on the sail hand, but can be set almost completely to "off" at any time when unfurling. This means that it actually offers everything you could expect from a wave sail, even on the wave, except that those looking for maximum planing power may want to look for stronger sails. On the other hand, the Poison offers almost as much "off" on the wave and in manoeuvres as a flat sideshore sail. It is not light as a feather, but not heavy either, not nervous, not sluggish - no surfer will be dissatisfied with the Poison.
