On land: The fact that Severne sails are always among the lightest cloths on the market on the scales is primarily due to the fact that a light and soft grid laminate is used over a large area and the equipment has been weight-optimised. Nothing is missing in the key areas such as protectors and eyelets. However, there are no prints, trimming aids, additional features or superfluous seams. From this season, the S-1 comes with four battens and is designed with a much flatter profile.
On the water: The flatter profile of the S-1 is equally noticeable on the water - on the way through the surf and in flat water. This results in noticeably poorer planing performance and very nervous handling, but also very agile handling. With enough wind, the S-1 is a dream in red in the hands of experienced wave surfers and can be shifted, thrown and rotated with two fingers during jibes and demanding freestyle tricks. You won't feel any batten rotation in manoeuvres, nor any annoying life of its own in dipped moves à la Kono or Funnell. The same picture on the wave: feather-light and with a perfect "off", clean waves and side-offshore winds become a pleasure. In choppy conditions with currents and a diagonal onshore wind, the board lacks a little bit of gusto both when riding out against the wave and in the bottom turn in order to reach the lip of the wave at high speed.
