AN LAND
Our test sizes of 4.6 square metres and 5.2 square metres weigh in at a record-breaking 2.62 and 2.83 kilos respectively. This is made possible by the use of a lightweight laminate - carbon and Dyneema fibres are used in accordance with the loads involved. The protector and clew are reduced to a minimum, but by no means spartan. The price for so much high-tech is between 1033 and 1309 euros, depending on the size.
ON THE WATER
Compared to the all-rounder Blade, the S1 Pro feels more damped, it unfolds its power very harmoniously and offers at least as much gliding performance as the Blade. We really liked the ride comfort and damping of the S1 Pro, it takes the sting out of choppy bumps and hard landings without feeling spongy. The handling is first class, regardless of whether you are riding a power jibe or putting it down for a bottom turn. The pressure point stability in normal wind conditions is impressive, although the rather soft profile requires a little more adjustment in gusty conditions than the Blade. On the wave, the S1 actually gave us a little more drive and grounding on the sail hand than the Blade, which makes the concept an all-round sail.
surf conclusionLight, reactive and extremely comfortable - the S1 Pro is equally fun in bump & jump conditions on the IJsselmeer or in front of mast-high side-offshore waves. Compared to other wave sails, the S1 Pro is in the absolute top group in terms of handling, offers a balanced mix of drive and neutrality and only has to live with the label "average" in terms of control/wind range.
