The 2025 Sailloft Quad is significantly flatter and more neutral than in the past. In the test, you will find out where the strengths and weaknesses of this wave sail are.

The Sailloft Quad took a major development step from the 2023 to the 2024 season: A new profile with a visibly flatter sail body, the revised luff curve and shortened boom dimensions are the most important aspects. This means that you can (and must) play a little more with the trim; instead of a cut-in profile, the Quad can be adjusted to be either powerful for light winds or with a visible loose leech for strong winds. The features are as proven as solid, thick materials and reinforcements make the Quad look extremely robust. The clew position is very high and takes some getting used to.

Trimming hardly necessary

The adjustments also have an immediate effect on the water: in medium trim, the sail is now slightly less powerful, but noticeably more agile and lighter in the hand. The profile now appears significantly flatter, but pulls a full belly when sheeted in, which means that the Quad is still a decent planing sail and also surprises with impressive acceleration. The control remains positive, because on the one hand the centre of effort remains reliably between the hands in strong wind trim, on the other hand the sail still forms a centre trim that suits changeable conditions - annoying re-trimming is rarely necessary. The Sailloft Quad is now noticeably more neutral when jumping, where it develops less of a life of its own, and the top now noticeably lets off steam in strong gusts.

The Quad also benefits on the wave in the form of greater neutrality. The batten now pushes past the mast more in the bottom turn and the profile, which was cemented in in the past, flattens out better. Although the new Quad is not one of the absolute lightweights on the market, the model now appears much more agile and quicker in rotations, which is probably also due to the shorter boom dimensions. This should also be an argument for occasional trips to freestyle spots.

surf's summary of the Sailloft Quad 4.4

The new Quad now offers more neutrality and more potential for wave riding and jumps - which will please experienced wave riders in particular. Nevertheless, the planing power and wind range remain at a high level. If you are looking for even more power, Sailloft Hamburg has another alternative in the form of the Curve model.
