Vayu says it intends to retain the Aura’s general design philosophy – with a focus on light-wind power and neutrality when drifting through the waves. In the centre section, stiff Aluula Aeris material is still used, which is designed to give the wing rigidity in the centre. The Aura 5 is once again supplied with the tried-and-tested Click-Boom system, which allows the boom to be secured to the centre strut in a matter of seconds without the need for tools. Alternatively, however, it is also possible to ride the wing with short handles.
“Overall, the Vayu Aura 5 has been given a slightly deeper profile to deliver even better performance in marginal conditions”, the manufacturer is quoted as saying. Another new feature is that the larger sizes of the Aura are now being launched in a special light-wind version – known as the Aura LW. Two additional struts support the main frame, whilst the aspect ratio for the 7.0 and 7.5 square metre sizes is slightly lower (AR 2.11) than for the smaller sizes (AR 2.42). This means that the wingspan has been deliberately reduced to prevent the wing tips from dragging too much in the water whilst pumping up. Up to size 6.5, the wing is also available in two colourways – orange/grey and blue/grey. The light-wind versions, at 7.0 and 7.5 square metres, are available in orange/grey. Prices range from 1,049 to 1,599 euros, depending on the size.
