After the Foil Festival has been held on Schönberg beach for the past three years, this year the event is moving to the south beach of the Baltic Sea island of Fehmarn. From 17 to 20 May, the long Whitsun weekend, you can test the latest equipment, get a taste of wingfoiling and watch the pros on the water. The Surf Festival takes place on the same site the week before, and just like there, the Foil Festival also has a large beach camp where you can stay overnight with your bikes and campers directly at the festival!
The beach camp is located directly behind the festival site on the south beach - there is hardly any other place closer to the spot. "Here you can meet like-minded surf fans and festival friends, build wagon castles, barbecue, party and make friends for life," promise the organisers. The Bach Camp is open to tents, caravans and camper vans up to six metres in length, while Beach Camp Max is open to vehicles up to nine metres in length. If you want to be there, make sure you get your ticket in good time!
According to the organisers, the Foil Festival is the world's largest beach fair for wingfoiling, with 43 exhibitors from the wingfoil industry making their latest equipment available for testing free of charge. Wingfoil beginners' courses will also be offered on site to give anyone interested an insight into this young and fascinating sport. The pros will be competing in the fourth German Freestyle Championships as part of the festival. Over 50 German and international wingfoil stars are expected, including water sports prodigy Balz Müller. The competitions will take place daily from 10:00 to 18:00 directly in front of the festival site on the south beach and will be accompanied by interviews on the stage behind the dyke.
The Foil Festival is one of six tour stops in Germany whose rankings are summarised in the DWFV e.V. (German Wingfoil Association) annual rankings for 2024 and serve as a springboard for the international competitions of the Global Wingsports Association. The best German wing foilers will be determined at the official German Championships in the "Wave" discipline on Sylt, in the "Freestyle" discipline on Fehmarn and in the "Slalom" discipline in Kellenhusen.
