The wingfoilers had ideal conditions at the Summer Opening Sylt: Over four days of competition at the California Wingfoil Masters, the athletes were able to score points in all three disciplines - slalom, freestyle and wave. Joost Brendel from Kiel dominated the slalom. In sunshine and three to four force winds, he won all three slalom eliminations on the final day. With a total of five race wins in seven eliminations, Brendel achieved the ideal score of 3.5 and thus confidently secured victory in the slalom discipline. Lucas Matthes followed in second place with one heat win and four second places. Julius Manthei completed the podium with a heat win and 14.7 points in the overall standings.
The freestyle decisions were already made on Friday: Lucas Matthes won the men's final against Julius Manthei. In the B final, Simon Spinas came out on top against Sylt local Lenny Barein. In the women's event, Jelena Duwe impressed with two heat wins and a second place. Alina Kornelli, who competed for Austria in kitefoiling at the Olympic Games in Marseille last year, took second place with one heat win and two second places.
In the men's wave discipline, reigning German champion Klaas Voget came out on top against Julius Manthei. Lucas Matthes secured third place with a victory in the B final against Sebastian Schacht. In the women's event, Alina Kornelli from Bavaria triumphed ahead of freestyle winner Jelena Duwe. Particularly impressive: In the U15 junior class, ten-year-old Tebbe Voget from Kiel won in both freestyle and wave riding.
The season opening on Sylt is not yet over with the Wingfoil Masters. From Thursday, the windsurfers will take over at the California Summer Opening. The first tour stop of the German Windsurf Cup will take place as part of the event.
