The 3rd Foil Festival on Schönberg beach is over. Although the wind god did not always favour the testers and participants in the regattas, there was still enough wind at times to test the equipment offered by over 40 manufacturers and to compete in the races of the Open German Championships.
More than 100 athletes from nine nations competed against each other in the race and freestyle disciplines in front of the pier in Schönberg in various age groups, including many youngsters. After all, four eliminations were organised for men and women. The Frenchwoman Orane Ceris, who is also a permanent fixture in the top 3 of the GWA Wingfoil World Cup on the international stage, won here with aplomb and took three first places in the final standings. Maria Behrens was the best German in second place, securing the DM title. The men's race was fiercely contested: with a victory in the final race, Benjamin May not only secured the DM title but also victory against top French rider Alan Fedit. He was followed by Yannik Holste and "Radiculo" Balz Müller.
The wind conditions didn't allow much action in freestyle. Only the youngsters were able to ride some heats with big wings. German youth champion in the U13 class was Julian Furkmann from Heikendorf, while Hubert Christahl from Preetz won the U15 category. The remaining classifications could not be finalised due to the wind conditions.
Nevertheless, there was still plenty on offer at the 3rd Foil Festival. 43 manufacturers offered their products for testing free of charge. The taster courses in wing foiling and pump foiling organised by the Heidkate surf school were also free of charge.
Another Foil Festival is being planned for 2024 - possibly at a different location. We will let you know as soon as there is official news about this.
