Events: Hamburg Surf Film Festival 2027 – submit your films now
Submissions for the 2027 Surf Film Festival in Hamburg are now open. International surf films will be screened over two days in April 2027.

Following the success of its first edition in 2026, the Hamburg Surf Film Festival is bringing surfing back to the big screen. On 23 and 24 April 2027 Over two days, the festival will be screening an international selection of surf films in Hamburg. From today, filmmakers can submit their work via FilmFreeway. The 2026 premiere demonstrated just how great the interest in surf culture is, even far from the coast: Both evenings were sold out, more than twelve films were screened at the cinema, and there were many lively discussions about the films with the guests in attendance. The festival deliberately takes a holistic view of surfing: wave riding, windsurfing, kitesurfing and other water sports all have their place. Submissions can be made in two categories – short film (up to 15 minutes) and feature film (15 minutes or longer). Prizes will be awarded for the best short film, the best feature film and the Best Female Movie Award. Films must not be older than April 2025, should have English subtitles and must not be freely available online. The early-bird deadline is 31 December 2026; the regular submission deadline is 1 February 2027. Submitters will be informed by early March which films have made it into the programme. Workshops and talks are also planned to accompany the screenings; the festival aims to be a meeting place for the surfing community. Details on the venue and ticket sales will follow in the coming months.
