50 starters took part in Winger of the Sea VII at the Foil Festival on Fehmarn, including a remarkable 10 starters in the U15 category. Overall, more than half of the participants were under 19 years old - so the youngsters are very active!
The first day of the competition began with a lull, the participants had to wait for wind after registration and the skippers' meeting. Despite the rainy weather, the atmosphere remained good and a BBQ on Saturday evening provided an opportunity to socialise. The second day surprised with ideal conditions: Just in time for lunchtime, an offshore wind of 12 to 20 knots set in, offering both challenging and exciting racing conditions.
A total of 12 races took place in ideal conditions - six per category. The U15 category started separately and impressed with performances at the highest level. In the main field, a thrilling competition developed between the favourites Benjamin May and Kim Holste. The women also attracted attention, with Jette Koep leading the way and finishing in an excellent 13th place overall.
Results and new champions
In the U15 category, Wilhelm Christahl came out on top on equal points with Jonte Boysen, with the tie-break rule deciding the outcome. In the U19 category, Benedikt Hiss shone with a clear victory and a promising fourth place in the overall standings. In the exciting men's duel, Yannick Holste proved to be the undisputed favourite, winning four of the six races.
